It can be frustrating sometimes when you simply seem to run out of ways to enhance your house’s interior. You may not have any more space in your rooms, and you might not want to spend money on unnecessary furniture. That’s when you have to turn to your own creativity… but your mind draws a blank. However, don’t fret! The following ten DIY wall decorations are sure to spice up your home- at an affordable price!

1. Jar on the wall

This decoration requires simple wood planks, iron hooks, mason jars, and whatever you want to put in the jars. This includes plastic flowers, real flowers, vegetables, or even cacti! You can space out the hangings in a horizontal line, or in a descending diagonal line. You could also try a vertical line, or maybe even just one jar! Whatever you decide, this mini project is sure to add a creative, crafty touch to your house, and it doesn’t take up a lot of space!

2. Cut out art

If you have a lot of blank space on your walls, cut out art may be the solution you’re looking for. All you’ll need is cardstock paper, scissors, and sticky tack. Once you have these materials, you can begin making any cut out art you’d like. You can create soaring butterflies, intertwining flowers and vines, chirping birds, and budding trees. The art will pop even more if you use colours that stand out against your walls’ colours. This decoration is very homemade, which makes it look very original, while remaining elegant.

3. Build-A-Shelf

This project is easy, cheap, and useful. All you’ll need is popsicle sticks, hot glue, and nails/a picture hanger. The first step is to glue to popsicle sticks together in the shape you’d like (we recommend a hexagon because they have proven to be sturdy for this project), by alternating which popsicle sticks are on top and which are underneath. Once you have the width that you want, you can hang it up in a place where your wall looks bare. Then you can place something that needs a home on the shelf, like a potted plant, a doll, pottery, or  books. This shelf will look unique and artistic in your home, as well as creating a new space for miscellaneous things.

4. String and nail art

Got a lot of extra nails lying around? Put them to good use! For this craft, you’ll need many nails, string of your choice, and a wooden board. You can make practically anything, but some simple examples are: flowers, hearts, stars, and letters. First, you should draw a pencil sketch on the wooden board, and plan the intervals where you’ll place the nails. Next, put the nails in in the shape of the the design you chose. After that, tie the string around one of the nails and follow the path you’ve made. You’ll end up with a 3D version of the picture you wanted. This project can be quite stress relieving, what with all the hammering, and when you’re finished, you’ll be able to say: “I nailed it!” (Pun intended.)

5. Watercolour in a frame

Get your watercolours and a brush, and get ready to make a splash! You don’t have to be a good painter to do this. If you do happen to be a good painter, go all out with a beautiful landscape or a sunset, and then frame it and put it up on your wall. However, if you aren’t, you can take a more abstract approach. Use different shades of blues, or greens, and let them blend. You could make a more vibrant painting by using crimsons and oranges, and calling it an abstract sunrise. The beauty of watercolours is that it’s hard to go wrong with blending, so don’t worry and just create a pretty blend of colours to decorate your wall.

6.  Creative Clock

This wall decoration can truly be anything you want it to be. The numbers don’t have to be numbers at all! You can use pictures of your family, stars, hearts, or even buttons. If you want to have numbers you can use roman numerals, dominoes, dice, or you can simply place less numbers than would be found on a regular clock. You’ll only need to buy the clock hands and battery, along with a board of some sort. Besides that, you can do any number of things! This craft will be a handy tool in telling the time, and it’ll add a hint of craftiness to your home.

7. Your family’s names!

Express your family member’s names on your walls! You can use wood or cutout letters hanging down vertically, or you can make the names intersect- scrabble style. You can make this decoration very colourful, by either letting each family member choose the colour they want, or by simply using a mixed variety of colours. If words are not enough, you can add helpful pictures of the family beside the names. This produces an overall cute, heartwarming effect, while also getting rid of horribly boring blank space.

The ideas above can make your walls go from plain to unique and admirable. Don’t hesitate to get crafty!
