Thursday, October 20th was a very exciting day for JobJar. During one event, JobJar was one of the top five finalists for both the People’s Choice Award and the Innovation Award. This was hosted by the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, whose goal is to solve business problems and make the city a better place to do business.
The People’s Choice Award is based on people liking what you do, with votes inputted through a link.
Naomi Pereira, Co founder and CEO of JobJar, says “being a finalist in 2 categories with companies of great trajectories within our city, makes us feel tremendous satisfaction”, Pereira commented.
That same night, Startup Calgary, hosted a startup pitch competition, in which JobJar was voted into the top 12 companies chosen to go to a Launch Party.
A couple of hundred people attended the event. After listening to each company do a 3 minute pitch with a 2 minute slot for questions from the judges, the crowd was then given a 5 minute timeframe to vote for their preferred startup via text messaging. Before the night became to an end, Kari Gordon announced the results of the top 12 companies. The contestants weren’t informed of how many votes they got, or which specific place in the 12 they received, but they do know that the Launch Party will have 700 people, and it is an opportunity to promote their business to other guests.
When asked how he felt about this win, VP Business Development Wuilder Torres said: “Being in the top 12 gives us fuel to keep going and help more people along the way”
It looks like this company is doing well with the general public, and will continue to do so as more improvements are made.
